--- Evan Hall --- Future gravitational-wave detectors --- After the initial successes of Advanced LIGO and Advanced Virgo, a campaign is underway increase the sensitivity of the global gravitational-wave detector network. In the short and medium term, improvements are planned to bring the current instruments to their designed sensitivities and to eventually reach the sensitivity limits set by the current kilometer-scale detector facilities. In the long term, planning is underway for a new generation of detectors, to be housed in new facilities that can accommodate interferometers that are 10 km or longer. Such detectors would achieve sensitivities that are roughly an order of magnitude better than the sensitivities of the current generation of detectors, enabling gravitational-wave detections at unprecedented rates and high signal-to-noise ratios. ---
